I have the pleasure of working for the feds. I am afraid to open my mouth at work for fear of actually expressing my opinion as a son of a farmer.... (the equivalent of a son of a bitch in Toronto). I am actually afraid of this show - it is portraying a Canada that does not exist, and is meant, obviously, for our moral instruction... the cod liver oil of comedies. As a rural rube, I operate under the strange assumption that I should work hard, keep my head down, and my elbows up. Too bad that responsible individualism is being swallowed by the collective communities that now, apparently, comprise my country. Who knew?
Posted at 2007-01-09 18:23:42 [PermaLink]Doesn't exactly sound like an 'All in the Family' remake. I'm guessing there won't be a lot of "sit and shiver" ethnic type jokes...
Posted at 2007-01-09 18:59:52 [PermaLink]the program is the usual unfunny, unmitigated, CBC crap and deserves to disappear from TV ASAP. Only a pompous, arrogant, smug, self satisfied government funded broadcaster could produce such a disaster and pretend it was of any value whatsoever.
The message is there are no Muslim terrorists. Rural people are all ignorant, bigoted rubes. Only people from Toronto are tolerant, enlightened and intelligent. A full load of BS
So, it sounds as if the only ones who will be offended are small town Canadian farmers. Oh well, they don't count anyway....:-)...right CBC? right Liberals????
Posted at 2007-01-09 19:04:13 [PermaLink]I just finished watching the show. It was not only an insult to my intelligence as a viewer, but also portrayed rural Canadians as stereotypical dhimmwits.
Posted at 2007-01-09 19:15:18 [PermaLink]My wife and I thought the show portrayed the OPP as a bunch of retards, Torontonians as the most enlightened people in the country, small town people as ignorant morons and the talk show host was painted as a Canadian Rush Limbaugh. I am guessing 12 episodes before the axe. The Muslems in the show where playing the part of normal everyday Canadians while the Canadians played the fools. It was telling that all the woman are thoroughly liberated and talked back and argued to the men and their husbands and even the head Muslem just like all the Moslem women in real life. hahaha. CBC Canadian Brainwash Company
Posted at 2007-01-09 19:28:06 [PermaLink]And after it is terminated, what will be the cost per actual person who viewed it?
It is long overdue for the CBC to be forced to raise much of its funding the same way PBS does - by telethon. At least then they will have to put on programming that people will literally pay to watch.
It would show real courage for some one to actually take on the contradictions in the Koran... It doesn't take courage to insult rural folks in Western Canada since we are all obviously idiots anyway eh? Like most CBC comedies these rural characters are unrecognizable as real people to me. Yucch! Do yourself a favour and turn on Corner Gas instead.
Posted at 2007-01-09 19:34:30 [PermaLink]"its mere existence is a grand-slam assertion that Canadian TV is different and that the best of Canadian TV amounts to a rejection of the hegemony of U.S. network TV..."
What pompous bombast. More like no producer in the US would last 30 seconds after launching such tripe as this. And I bet he never watches another episode.
and do we think the same about Corner Gas? Would Little Mosque be a hit on CTV or Global? Time will tell.
Posted at 2007-01-09 21:04:26 [PermaLink]meh. I watched it. I don't understand the fuss. It had its funny moments and coming from a small farming town I know people like some of the "ingorant" small towners in the show... that being said I now live amongst the enlightened in Toronto and I've met some of the same type of folks here.
I don't think this show will have any long term effect on the health of the MotherCorp[se].
wcteddi; hey, I'm with you on that. 'Corner Gas' is painful to watch. At least the characters in 'Northern Exposure' had some.
Posted at 2007-01-09 21:11:52 [PermaLink]Comedy? Are you kidding me? Taking risks? Are they serious? This was a joke of a show. Not funny, not risk-taking at all.
You want to take risks, take the risks that Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Theo Van Gogh took.
Also...some things are just not meant to be made fun of. I don't think that terrorism and the fears that are real are comedy material. Nor are wife abuse, suicide bombing, etc.
If they were going to take risks, they could have made an idol out of the prophet, or had a cartoon drawing contest. Think of all of the people who have been killed because of terrorism, and I can't imagine someone writing a comedy to make light of people's justified fears.
As for small town stereotypes, the stereotypes never fit reality. If they are going to do stereotypes, then do them all the way. But, don't forget the stereotypes in the Muslim community. Put some females who are horribly oppressed in there as well.
That would be comedy, I guess, because it would be so bloody unbelievable that people actually lived like that, supported it, and promoted that lifestyle.
Stupid show.
well just finished and I guess it's back to the Little Food channel or maybe HGTV. Pretty lame or is that lamb!! and wasn't there a Corner Gas cameo?
Posted at 2007-01-09 22:04:52 [PermaLink]Wait for these copycat shows;

-Between Iraq and a Hard Place
-Muslim in the Middle
-Allah My Children
Complete and utter bull crap. There's nothing funny about making my countrymen appear small and lousy. The Mayor and her aide were chosen from the feminist yearbook of plug uglies, as is the CBC mandate of course... I do not care that these two are not beautiful, I do care that the CBC chose them because of it . It is the same analogy as the old subliminal advertising thing ...or the new sociology "labelling" thing . A subtle reminder that women are intellects first... and beauty a distant second. All that was missing was the thigh boots and a NOW button on these two slabs .
The muslim girl on the other hand was pretty but again. subliminal .. dark shining Muslim pretty; ax-faced blonde over 50...not !
Now lets get down to some good old adultery and stonings and we'll have us a convoy .
Vote with your 'gadget'. Stop using the CBC, it will stop using you.
Posted at 2007-01-10 05:44:31 [PermaLink]Apalling. Really apalling. The wife and I made it through only a few minutes of hokiness before we switched it off. I didn't even wait to take in any chances it might take.
I was more concerned that this is coming out of my tax dollers.
They need to fire the whole lot of management at the CBC and steal some people from the BBC or something. At least they can create some interesting entertainment.
Can't wait for DR WHO to come back on the 15th!
Well, that odious muslim brotherhood mouthpiece, *Islamonline.org* is just gushing with praise.
The website claims the series will serve to dispel "myths" about islam.
Translation: the show is islamist propaganda that will allay the well-founded fears and hoodwink the kuffur into thinking that no ulterior motives are at play.
The author wants to teach the "non-muslim" public ( for that is all we are....merely non-muslim) and correct misperceptions (a violent track-record stretching back 1,400 years is but a misconception) any of us may have about the faith. If you still believe, for example, that two tall trade-centres once graced Manhatten's skyline, you have misconcpetions! Those misconcpetions are a form of islamophobia, "paranoia" that Nawaz aims to satirize.
That's right, any sadness or sorrow you and I feel about 911, any mistrust...no matter how rational and well-founded that followed those events should be satirized. Nawaz aims, thus, to mock, to denigrate and to deny.
Nawaz should be horse-whipped.
Who's in favour of approaching the Saudi broadcasting company about a series entitled "Little Church on the Sand-dune"?
Just so we can correct any misconcpeptions muslims may have about Judeo-Christian values.
Judy Rebbick could co-produce it with that other icon of feminist self-realisation, Sheema Khan.
One other thing, I deeply resent my tax-dollars being used by islamists ( for that's all Nawaz is) to engage in damage-controle and to attempt to kick-start the deceitful, bullshit laden islamist charm-offensive that worked so well prior to 911.
Since when should I have to pay to be mocked?
Alex:
Re: "Wait for these copycat shows;"
LOL!
I second John B's sentiments, Alex.
" Kneel or No Deal," hilarious!
I was very pleased with the show. It got international press.
With the first episode being so lame we have a world-wide embarrassment that will provide the gubmnt the ammunition it needs to shut down the CBC.
alex; good stuff!! (You know you have too much spare time, eh?) :)
Posted at 2007-01-10 09:35:13 [PermaLink]Personally I look forward the the episode of: "Welcome Back Khadr"
Posted at 2007-01-10 09:39:33 [PermaLink]"The CBC has made a big deal of how brave it is. "Just doing the series is a risk in itself, but one the public broadcaster should take on if we're to help communicate the authenticity of living in Canada," explains programming guru, Kirstine Layfield."
Sheesh. "Brave" would be actually criticizing Islamofascism and moderate Islam's failure to stand up to it. CBC just isn't into risk-taking.
Exactly, Ellie. The left intelligentsia ostentatiously preens that it is "controversial", "risk-taking", "talking truth to power", "provocative", "free-thinking" etc. but the reality we all know is that they are the biggest bunch of risk-averse lemmings around. As Mark Steyn noted, they will only provoke those who will not be provoked (conservatives, Christians, etc) and scrupulously avoid provoking those who really will be provoked (Islamofascists). So much for courage and honour, but who really expected that from these people anyway?
What the hell is wrong with these people?
Sometimes things are just too depressing for words. Even though its afternoon, I'm off to get another scotch...
Personally I look forward the the episode of: "Welcome Back Khadr"
Now that is brilliant, John B.! That would be the basis for a really insightful comedy about this crazy country of ours...
Queensman:
I would like to say that I appreciate your comment .Unfortunately for me, that bit of insightful humour was provided by Alex above. He should be writing for the CBC.
My reaction to LMOTP? Mildly amusing occasionally, but not spectacularly or universally funny--a rerun of Gostinitsa Oshibkina would have been much more enjoyable and much less derivative. Full marks to Ms Nawaz and company for having her heart in the right place, but at best a D for the end result. If this is the sort of ethnic situation comedy that the CBC is hoping will save the network, then the last guy out of Fort Dork might as well turn out the lights right now.
Posted at 2007-01-11 13:40:41 [PermaLink]"The message is there are no Muslim terrorists. Rural people are all ignorant, bigoted rubes. Only people from Toronto are tolerant, enlightened and intelligent. A full load of BS"
Well if this board is a representation of Rural People, then you make that argument yourself. In the first episode only one townsperson is shown to be bigoted, and even he isn't shown to be bigoted per say (he says nothing hateful really) just someone who fails to understand Islam. (An accurate description of most westerners.) He doesn't say anything mean, he doesn't refuse to buy from the Muslim construction company owner, he calls the 'Terrorist Hotline' because thats what everyone is told to do if they see something odd. Islam looks odd to us. The only other characters shown in a seriosuly negative light is the talkshow host and his listeners. I live in Alberta, and these people exist. They in no way are representative of ALL 'Rural Rubes' but they do exist. The same way that the Evil, Obnoxious, Self-Important Muslim Extremists are not representative of all or even most Muslims. They certainly do not represent a majority of Muslim opinion.
"So, it sounds as if the only ones who will be offended are small town Canadian farmers. Oh well, they don't count anyway....:-)...right CBC? right Liberals????"
Well it is a good bet that small town canadian farmers isn't their main target demographic, and since when did anyone make shows intended to make everyone happy? One of the issues is that most of western television isn't overly appealing to Muslims. Since Muslims are 1-2% of Canadian taxpayers, whats the harm of spending less than 1% of the CBC anual budget on such a show?
Some people find it funny. If you don't, go back to re-runs of Gilligans Island. There's true culture for you. If there are not enough people that enjoy it (and I will be honest and say that it does need to sharpen up a lot if it wants to last) then it will fade away, but it is a first, and not the worst or least funny show I have ever seen.
FUCK LITTLE MOSQUE ON THE PRAIRIE AND FUCK THAT BITCH ....WHATS HER NAME?....THE PRODUCER OF THE SHOW... YEH... ZARQA NAWAZ... NOT ONLY SHE'S A BITCH.... BUT ALSO AN INSULT TO ALL PAKISTANIS.....THAT WITCH IN A BURQA.....WHAT THE HELLL DOES SHE KNOWS ABOUT ISLAM....THAT HORE CRAP... I MEAN PEOPLE LET ME TELL YOU STRAIGHT FORWARD I AM A MUSLIM AND I AM ALSO OFFENDED BY HER SHOW AND I HOPE MANY OF YOU ARE....I MEAN THIS IS THE TIME THAT SOME MUSLIM YOUTH ARE GOING THROUGH A PHASE THAT THEY ARE HAVING TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING AND FOLLOWING ISLAM AND QURAN IN GENERAL AND YET THERE IS THIS BITCH (ZARQA NAWAZ) THAT CREATED A SHOW THAT EVEN DEMONIZES ISLAM MANY MUSLIMS IN CANADA ARE UP IN ARMS FOR LITTLE MOSQUE ON THE PRAIRIE.... AND YOU ALL OUT THERE WHO LOVE THIS SHOW I ASK YOU A QUESTION. WHAT THE FUCK IS A ORTHODOX MUSLIM? THE REALITY IS PEOPLE THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ORTHODOX MUSLIM....THIS SHOW LITTLE MOSPUE ON THE PRAIRIE DEMONIZES ISLAM AND CHRISTIANS PLZ RAISE YOUR VOICE AGAINST IT.....I AM BEGGING YOU ALL................
Posted at 2007-01-28 02:46:22 [PermaLink]Yes, what a piece of brown smelly matter. Just another dose of CBC manufactured P.C. crapp. CBC does not represent the minds of Canadians as it seems to think it does with this plate of steaming lies.
Posted at 2007-02-02 18:55:50 [PermaLink]wel;l enjoyed reading about the comments esp since i would never watch anything the Commie broadcasting corp makes but who carers anyways canada will be a muslim nation in a generation anyways if the cbc really wants to makes a fuuny show it should make welcome back or I killed the infidel for muhummad that would be funny.
Posted at 2007-02-13 11:51:38 [PermaLink]Michael Landon would be spinning in his grave. CBC has indeed outdone itself with this piece of tripe. The stupid one liners pertaining to terrorism with humor are pathetic. Last week the parish hall electrical panel shorts out and one of the Muslims yells, "This is OUR September 11!" This is the kind of dimwitted bullshit I'm talking about. All these little barbs about terrorism meant to be funny. It's NOT funny, it's SICK! Only some sick, twisted sons a bitches can take September 11 and try to make light of it. Fuck CBC and fuck the CRTC for allowing CBC to air this sort of embarrassment. To quote the old Red Rose Tea commercials, "Only in Canada, eh? Pity!"
Posted at 2007-02-14 21:29:56 [PermaLink]I am from small town Sasktchewan, currently re-located to Alberta, and I find that Corner Gas is the best way of dealing with homesickness.
As for Little Mosque on the Prairie... well, I wonder if the comments left on this thread were made by Americans .... I think it's rather funny. When you live in a rural Saskatchewan town, the rest of the world disappears, and you don't really think about what they think of you.
The people who are most offended are fake sell out frauds who greedily want to sell everything away. Take the lesson from Alberta, and quit being American.
