Ironic.....

Chirac won't be there and Chirac WOULDN'T be anywhere but for the brave men who WERE there.

So these three stooges complained that they weren't invited (a claim that we now find out was incorrect but the MSM sure did jump on it and spread it as fact) and now that we find out they were, they all decide they can't be bothered to go.

So guys - who is playing partisan politics here??

The story mentions the three opposition leaders. Although Layton isn't specifically mentioned, I assume he will also weasel out.

"The three leaders claim they have commitments that couldn't be changed .."

I would like to see what those commitments are.

"Fife said the French embassy told him that Chirac can't attend because of the French presidential elections, although Fife noted that Chirac isn't running."

I'm not sure which is more insulting, the fact Chirac isn't there (frankly, who cares - it's not like the French actually did anything at Vimy) or that they didn't take the time to cook up a better excuse.

God save the Queen indeed.

I would also like to know what prior commitments have taken precedence.

Dion could vote in the advance polls for his President if he went, maybe he'll change his mind.

If you have a relative who enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force to fight in WWI, you can search online for their "Attestation Papers" here.

So what's so super-important for Dion will skip this symbolic national historical event honouring fallen Canadians in the fight for liberty?

I hope that the MSM will cover Dion's events during the Vimy Ridge ceremonies, which he apparently feels are a higher priority, like perhaps, breakfast, or meeting with a few fellow Liberals?

I think that Dion's excuses for not attending the Vimy Ridge ceremonies is infantile behavior.

Coming from a person that wants to lead our country some day, Dion's behavior is simply inexcusable.
